On the Porch

Your neighbor comes over. If you don't have a front porch and he knocks on the door, you have two choices: you either have to invite him in or step outside. You don't want to invite him in; that's too close. So you have to step outside, and then he's wondering the whole time why you're standing outside and why you didn't invite him in. There's no space for us to just get together.

Einstein had a theory that said no person can ever really reach their destination. In the movie IQ Meg Ryan likens that unto two people. No two people can ever become so close that there is no distance between them because you always only cover half the space. If we open the door and invite our neighbor in rather than stepping outside we're inviting them to cover half our distance with us. If we step outside we're basically saying they aren't good enough. Our home reflects our hearts, or at least it should, so wouldn't it be wise to let others enjoy our hearts?
